Algebra 1
School Year 2021-2022
Ms. Bernal
ibernal@imater.org

Dear Parents/Guardian:

Welcome to iMater Academy School. We are beginning a new school year and I am very
happy to have your child in my Math Class. It is my belief that every student is equal and
will be treated with respect and consideration. I strongly believe that education needs to
be enjoyable for learning to occur. I intend to make your son/daughter's year rewarding
and instill a desire to achieve all their goals.

Algebra 1 is the first math class in your student’s school schedule to require an End of
Course Exam also known as an EOC. The Algebra 1 EOC is a mandatory state exam for
every student enrolled in Algebra 1. Passing this exam at the end of the school year is
required for high school graduation. Throughout the year and through the student’s
course work we will be preparing for this exam.

Please e-mail me if you are ever concerned with your child's progress and I will respond
to you promptly.

Respectfully Yours,

Ms. Iris Bernal
Materials
Each day, the students are expected to bring to class the following materials:
• 2 #2 pencils
• 1 Red pen
• TI-30Xa Calculator
• Binder
• Graph paper (print from my website)

Methods of Assessments
Several methods of assessments will be given such as exams, class work, home learning,
and participation. Students are expected to complete all assignments within the given
time period. Please be aware that incompletion of an assignment will result in a letter
grade “Z”, which is equivalent to an “F”.  This will ultimately lower the student’s grade.
Any student/parent who is concerned or dissatisfied with their grade is urged to schedule
an appointment with the teacher to discuss methods for success and/or intervention.
Parents and student are advised to check the parent/student portal consistently at
www.dadeschools.net.
EVALUATION: Tests – 30 %
Classwork/Quizzes – 40 %
Home learning – 30%

Attendance Policy
Attendance is mandatory.  If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to submit an
Absence Notification Form (ANF) to the attendance office within three days upon their
return to school.  Once the student's ANF is excused, they will have a week to complete
and turn in any missed assignment.  I will not provide any missed assignment without an
excusable ANF, which in turn, the student will receive a letter grade “Z”.
