Class Syllabus
Sra. Guzmn
Bienvenidos! Welcome to another school year! It is truly an exciting
moment, as we begin a new year and, for some students, in a new school. I
invite each and every one of you to help make this a successful year full of
many accomplishments. Remember though, your success is a choice you
make.
Classroom Expectations: Responsibility and Respect
For example
I.
Be respectful to others and their property.
II.
Come to class prepared by bringing all necessary materials to class
each day.
III.
Bottled water is acceptable.
IV.
Any inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
V.
Cell phone and computer use in the classroom will be allowed for
instructional purposes only.
VI.
Maintain the classroom clean by picking up any trash on or around
your desk.
VII. Keep walls, desks, chairs, and textbooks free of any kind of graffiti.
VIII. Plagiarism of any kind, including cheating and/or copying class work,
homework, and quizzes/tests will NOT be tolerated. Student will receive
a zero without the possibility of making it up.
**Restroom Passes: If a student has a medical condition that
requires him/her to use the restroom on a daily basis, please notify the
school nurse immediately. During class time, any student who needs to
leave the room, for any reason, will be required to sign-out and sign
back in, with their name and time. If a student is constantly requesting
to leave the room, parents will be notified.
Consequences:
I.
Student will receive a verbal warning.
II.
Second verbal warning will be given; assigned seat will be changed,
student and teacher will have a private chat about the situation, and
parent/legal guardian will be notified.
III.
Third warning will include parent notification and referral to the
counseling office.
IV.
Fourth warning will result in a referral to the assistant principals office.
Homework:
Students will have homework almost every night. The amount, level of
difficulty, and duration of the homework assignments will vary every day.
Homework will be collected in the beginning of each class period. Credit will

be given then it will be handed back to the student. It is important students


complete each homework assignment, in order to receive full credit. It will be
the students responsibility to check their own homework assignment,
when we go over answers in class.
Participation:
Participation is highly encouraged. Every student will have the opportunity to
obtain participation points in class. Participation grade will also include their
Spanish notebook students will be responsible for keeping throughout the
entire year and graded about every 5 weeks.
Absences:
If a student is absent on any given day, it will be THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to
turn in any missed work and/or make up quizzes or tests. Student will be
given the same amount of time they were absent to make up the missed
work. NO MAKE-UP OR LATE WORK, OF ANY KIND, WILL BE
ACCEPTED, unless its for an excused and verified absence. If a
student is absent for a quiz or a test, he/she will need to schedule a day and
time to make up the necessary work.
Required Class Materials:
Students will need a spiral notebook, pens (preferably in blue/black ink),
pencils, erasers, binder paper, and highlighters.
Grading System:
All assignments, quizzes, exams, notebook, presentations, and projects will
be worth a certain amount of points. Points will be added then weighed in the
following manner: homework and class work will be worth 20%,
participation/notebook 30%, quizzes and projects 30%, and exams
(Benchmark Exam) 20% of the final grade. The final percentage will then be
assigned a letter grade according to the standard grading scale: 100-90 =
A, 89-90 = B, 79-70 = C, 69-60 = D, and 59-50 = F.
