one (1) warning to put the phone away. After the second time I see the phone, I will follow the
schools policy and the phone will be confiscated and taken to the APs office.
Students Leaving Class
Students are encouraged to use the restroom and/or get water between classes. Each student
will receive his/her own hall pass to record each time they leave class. Students will be
rewarded each 3 weeks for a blank hall pass. During critical instructional time, students may be
asked to wait until I am done teaching before leaving class. Parents will be contacted if I notice a
trend.
Calculators
Each student is assigned a graphing calculator to use during class. The calculators are kept in a
numbered pocket in the classroom. It is the students responsibility to take care of their
calculator and not damage it. Students should notify me immediately if something is wrong with
their calculator.
Grades and Testing
Conroe ISD has set the grading scale as: 50% tests, 30% daily, and 20% quiz. The majority of
graded work in this class is classified as a daily grade (homework included). Math Review quizzes
are given every other Friday, which is classified as a quiz grade. Students take a 6-question Math
Review quiz to assess their knowledge of topics covered in our daily Math Review. Topic tests
and district benchmarks are classified as a test grade (major grade). I encourage parents and
students to frequently check View-It for updated grades. Students are given a 3-week and 6week Progress Report to take home, but the 9-week Report Card is mailed. Parents will be
contacted if their child is in danger of failing.
STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness)
All 8th grade students will take the Math STAAR on March 29, 2016. Any student who does not
pass will retake the STAAR on May 9, 2016. Any student who does not pass the second time will
take it again during summer school on June 21, 2016. STAAR will assess the 8th grade math TEKS
covered during the year, so we will work very hard to master each and every TEK to be
successful on STAAR.
