DELINS/DELFOR
(From Odette EDIFACT messages based on directory D96A)
The Business Function Covered by the Message
The DELINS message is used to cover the functional requirements of the scheduling
phase which include forecasting and calling off requirements. This message is sent from
the buyer to the seller and gives information regarding the details for shortterm
delivery instructions and medium to long-term requirements. It allows the seller to plan
his production schedule and to know when his goods must be delivered according to the
conditions set out in a contract or order.

With this message the recipient will be able to:
o know when the buyer wants the articles to be delivered (for daily call-off)
o plan for future requirements to purchase raw materials for his own production to
fabricate and/or deliver articles in line with the delivery instructions
o synchronise the material flow between the buyer and supplier
o know whether the instructions are related to forecast or firm delivery

At the same time, the message allows the buyer to:
o inform the seller about quantities previously received
o inform the seller about the different packaging requirements

Special messages have also been designed to support JIT methodology and are to be used
in conjunction with DELINS. These messages include KANBAN, SYNCRO, SYNPAC
and CALDEL. In such cases, DELINS is used for the forecasting phase only, as defined
by partners.
Key information of the message
Basically the message identifies/describes:
o Message type (forecast and/or firm delivery)
o the parties involved (only one buyer, one seller, one manufacturer, one delivery
party and
o different consignees if necessary)
o the articles to be delivered
o information about packaging
o information about the delivery synchronisation (cumulative quantities, reference
to previous deliveries)
o horizon covered by the message
o delivery details (quantities, dates/time)
o flexibility information
AVIEXP/DESADV
(From Odette EDIFACT messages based on directory D96A)

This message, sent by the consignor to the consignee, is intended to advise the consignee
about the detailed content of a despatch so that the consignee is able to control the
material flow.
For instance it allows the recipient through its own information system to:
know when the material has been despatched and consequently which goods are in the
transportation process;
have the precise details of the despatch;
take the initial steps towards customs clearance in case of international despatch;
take the initial steps towards reception of goods;
either to enable matching the received goods with the following invoice or to prepare
the selfbilling process; etc.
1.2 Key Information of the message
Logically the message consists of three main blocks of information:

1. The message level information describes:
o the parties involved, among them only one consignor with one place of loading
and one consignee
o with one place of discharge;
o the one means of transport which contains the goods;
o when specified, the delivery terms valid for the whole despatch.

2. The product information describes:
o the despatched article;
o the identification of the related Purchase Order.
o 3. The packaging information describes:
o for each despatched article: the type(s) of packages it is packed in and when
specified, the package label numbers.
o for each group of handling units (i.e. handling units of the same type and of
identical content), its characteristics and when specified, the transport label
numbers.

Odette Transport Label V1.4.1
The Odette Transport Label is intended to be used on all transport packages between two
trading partners - supplier and buyer (as defined below). It is expected that in most cases
the label will be used in conjunction with advance shipping information i.e. the Despatch
Advice (AVIEXP) message which is transmitted between the parties electronically. For
shipment of some steel products such as coils and sheets, a modified Odette Transport
Label is used; specific information on this steel label is explained in Chapters 7 and 8.
Odette Transport Label Format
The Odette standard Transport Label is divided into two sections:

1) Shipping section containing information relating to destination (e.g. Buyer Address,
Unloading gate etc). The Shipping section must be printed on all transport units.

2) Parts Identification section divided into two distinct parts containing information
related to the product.

(a) A bar coded area:
Part Number, Quantity, Supplier Code, Serial Number.

(b) A special data area:
Part Description, Logistics Reference area, Date, Engineering Change etc.
For containers or boxes separately labelled as described in Chapter 5, where only the
parts identification section is needed and it is unsuitable because of its size, please refer to
the small package label specification published separately.

Notes: For simplicity the terms 'supplier' and 'buyer' are used throughout this document when referring to
the two parties. It should be understood that the despatcher of the goods will not always be the supplier nor
will the recipient always be the buyer.
The term 'transport unit' refers to any item that can be labelled for transportation. This could be, for
example: a container comprising numerous packages; a single package; an unpackaged part, etc.

Global Transport Label
The purpose of the GTL template is to facilitate the movement of goods and the exchange
of data among all members within the supply chain (suppliers, carriers, customers and
others). The amount of data (bar code as well as human readable text) needed on a label is
a function of the needs of the trading partners involved within the limits of this document.
When a bar code label is used in conjunction with computerised data bases and Electronic
Data Interchange (EDI), the amount of data needed on a label may be reduced
significantly.
