What is IAI? IAI is an initiative that contributes to narrowing the development gap in ASEAN. It does so by helping ASEANs newer Member States Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Viet Nam or CLMV in implementing their commitments to building the ASEAN Community, ensuring that benefits of ASEAN integration are equitably shared. How does IAI operate? It is implemented mainly through the IAI Work Plan. The current Work Plan covers the period 2009 to 2015. The Work Plan is patterned after and supports the goals of the ASEAN Community and its three Blueprints: Economic, Socio Cultural and Political Security. How is the Work Plan implemented? It is implemented by designing projects/activities that fulfill the Actions prescribed by the Work Plan II. Projects are implemented through financial and technical support from: ASEANs Dialogue Partners, development agencies, other ASEAN countries and technical experts How are IAI proj ects desi gned? In determining which projects to undertake under the IAI Work Plan II, three key criteria must be considered: 1. That the project is guided by the ASEAN Community Blueprints and IAI Work Plan II; 2. That the project addresses the specific needs of CLMV countries; 3. That the project is aligned with the resources available from potential donors: ASEAN Dialogue Partners, donor agencies, ASEAN-6. The project must also be designed around the absorptive capacity of CLMV countries for technical assistance and knowledge transfer, and must be designed to include mechanisms for sustainability of outputs and outcomes.
