Company History
Sandgate Technologies was founded in 1996 by Adrian Port and Chad
Spackman after a successful collaboration at ConnectWare Inc.,
developing that organization's high performance ATM NIC and LAN
switching products.
Later joined by long time associate Jon Wells, Sandgate undertook the
development of custom CMOS IP products including op-amps, video
DACs and ADCs, precision band-gap voltage references, as well as a
suite of high performance memory blocks consisting of multiport
memories, CAMs and notably, a DRAM and DRAM compiler facilitating
the integration of DRAM technology into standard planar CMOS
processes.
In 2000 Sandgate entered into a major development contract with Lucent
Technologies to build a complete TCP/IP offload engine (TOE).
Finding the available tools inadequate for the design of a complete in
silicon TCP/IP stack, Sandgate developed its own behavioral design flow
which proved without parallel, allowing a tiny team to bat well above
average while implementing a device which pushed every facet of the
day's technology.
Sandgate produced a family of 1 and 2-Gbps, PCI NIC cards with copper
and fiber interfaces complete with Windows, Linux, Solaris, and
OpenBSD software drivers. Sandgate went on to support Lucent's largest
contract with Intel through 2003.
In 2004 the Sandgate principals formed Cebatech Inc. in collaboration
Tim Sullivan, the Head of Lucent's OAN division.
Cebatech's mandate was to extend Sandgate's behavioral design flow to
include compilation from standard C to RTL and to apply this new flow to
development of even higher rate, 10Gbps and beyond, transport offload
IP.
Sandgate was reestablished by Spackman, Port and Wells in 2011, with
an eye on compression and 100Gbps networking infrastructures,
Sandgate's mission is to provide scalable IP and technology well suited
for extraordinary performance in single and multi-stream networking use
