Write at least 400 words on one of the following.
1. An announcement has been made by the Hollywood Academy on this years nominations for the
Oscar award. You notice that you and most of your friends have not heard of the flms nominated for
the Best Picture award. Write a letter to the head of the Academy Awards about this and suggest
alternative nominees and support your suggestions.
2. The mayor of your city has invited citizens to organize fundraising events for charity. You and a
group of students would like to organize a sponsored run. The best place to hold this event is the
city center. Write your proposal describing this event and its importance, and ask permission to use
this area.
3. It has been said that visiting another country broadens the mind. On a recent visit to another country
you had an experience that broadened your outlook. Write the story of your experience which you
hope will be printed in your school publication.
4. You are asked to take part in a school debate on the motion: Money is the root of all evil. Write
your speech either agreeing or disagreeing with this motion.
5. People often say that turning a book into a movie ruins a good book. For your school newspaper,
write a review of a movie you have seen that began as a book. Say whether you agree or disagree
with the statement.
6. A crucial element of a work is often the setting (place and time). In an essay, discuss how the setting
is important in a work you have read.
