Charlie
Once upon a time there was a man named Charlie. He lived in a time
called the late woodland era before written records were kept. Charlie and his
friends lived by Georgias coast. He was always looking for a way to help his tribe,
and he made very important discoveries. One day as he was looking for food, he
stumbled upon a small white mouse. At first, he was going to kill it and eat it, but
he eventually decided to keep it as a pet.
When the two companions got back to their hut that Charlie built out of
wood and grass, He started to think of a name for his pet. The first name that came
to mind was Algernon, so he decided to name him that. For the next week or two,
everything was perfect. Algernon and Charlie made pottery, frolicked in the
meadow, gathered blueberries and grew some corn.
Then Algernon changed. The small mouse observed the tribe and began
to develop new skills. He started gathering his own food, and built an advanced
mouse Tunnel. Charlie would watch Algernon and try to learn from Him. A Few
years passed and the old chief had died. The chief did not have any sons or
daughters, but before he passed away, he told the tribe that they needed to have a
contest to see who was the bravest, the smartest, and the wisest. Whoever won
the contest, would become the new chief.
The tribe held a meeting and decided to have a three-part contest. The
first part of the contest, was to see who could build the best invention to help
people hunt, farm, or gather things. Next, was the second part of the contest,
where they would have to create the most elaborate piece of art that they could.
The final section of the contest was to find the end of a maze made of corn.
The night before the first part of the contest, Charlie tried to think of
an invention to help people. As he was thinking, he saw Algernon fling rocks
across the room with a piece of string and a stick. Charlie ran outside and
immediately grabbed a Piece of wood, some feathers, a rock, and string. For the
rest of the night Charlie worked on his new invention.
Charlie woke up first thing in the morning and went straight into the
village center to present his invention to the contest judges. There were 7 people
in line to present to the judges. When it was finally Charlies turn, he turned to the
audience and told them that his new invention was called a bow and arrow. He said
that it could launch arrows by pulling the string back and letting go. The judges
clapped and told Charlie that he had won the first competition.
He went straight back to his hut and started making a vase out of clay.
When he thought that he had made a nice enough vase, he set it out to dry
overnight. Again Charlie woke up early, but when he went to check his vase, he
saw that Algernon had made intricate patterns with his feet and tail while walking
on the vase. This time when he went to the village center, he was the first one
there. As soon as the judges saw the vases pattern, they clapped and declared him
the winner.
Charlie and the others were quickly led away from the village center, and
towards the corn fields. When they got there, Charlie saw Algernon sitting at the
front of the maze. The judges said that they could start the maze and Charlie saw
Algernon head into the maze.
Charlie followed him through the fields of corn, he didnt know where he
was going, but he didnt want to be alone in the maze without Algernon.
Eventually, they came out into a big clearing with a stack of blueberries. Algernon
had followed the smell of his favorite food through the maze and led Charlie down
the correct path. Off in the distance he could see the judges walk up to him.
Congratulations! they said, You have completed all the challenges!
The next day, the entire tribe met at the sacred mound. The tribes elders
brought Charlie all the way to the top of the mound and put a giant hat on his head.
Charlie was crowned chief of the tribe, and Algernon became the co-chief.
Together him and Algernon worked for the future of the tribe and lived happily ever
after.

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.
Abraham Lincoln
This quote relates to our story because at the end of the story Charlie and Algernon Both became the leaders of the
tribe. Of course we do not really know what happens at the after the story ends. But of course through the story we see
adversity through the entire book. Leading on all Charlie will help the tribe improve.
The era that charlie actually lived in was the late Woodland Era. And because he was so young he went on to lead the
Mississippian era. He eventually met the Europeans.
