Guatemala from March 9 - 15th, 2014. I volunteered though a group called Maxio Nivel, and they were able to place me at Casa Maria a nursing home in San Felipe, Guatemala. At the nursing home I was able to take care of residents, clean wounds, engage residents in physical therapy and much more.
Project Highlights When I was volunteering, at Casa Maria the nursing home in San Felipe, Guatemala, I met a lady named Amanda. She had a wound about the size of a 50 cent piece under her eye. I was able to pay for a doctor to come and look at her eye, take a culture sample, examine the bacteria and then prescribe a prescription for only Q100. ($12.50 USD)
From My Journal I wish more students valued our elderly like I do. I also want to do more for the nursing home in San Felipe. I really think I want to send Q100 every month for wound care. *8 Quetzal (Currency in Guatemala) converts to 1 USD Alternative Spring Break - Guatemala Theresa Aguilar Community Engagement Center Business Management and French Fall 2014 Some of the residents at Casa Maria.
