Rare LTD

Rare Ltd is a home grown British video game developer based in Twycross, Leicestershire,
England. The company was established in 1985 by Tim Stamper and Chris Stamper who
also founded the games company Ultimate
Play the Game.
Rare Ltd concentrated on Nintendo Entertainment System games primarily creating games
such as Wizards and Warriors, Battletoads and R.C. Pro-Aim. These games helped the
company to develop and become a second-party developer for the massive company of
Nintendo in 1994.
After joining with Nintendo Rare Ltd continued to create games such as Donkey Kong
Country, Killer Instinct, GoldenEye 007 and many more. September 24

2002 was a major
point in Rare Ltd history as the company was purchased by Microsoft, and since the buying
of the company Rare ltd has focused solely on Microsoft video games consoles. Now
working for Microsoft Rare Ltd have made major games such as Kameo: Elements of
Power and the Viva Piata series also participating in the making of Kinect sports for the
Kinect sector of Microsoft gaming system.
In 2007 the founders of the company Tim and Chris Stamper departed the company to live
other lives and pursue other opportunities. Rares current director is Simon Woodroffe who
has previously worked at other studios such as Midway Games, Ubisoft and Sega.
