grade girls basketball coach in Parowan coaches voluntarily and hopes to help her
team with not only the sport but also skills they will continue to have throughout their lives. The team
started their season just the end of last December 2013 and finished off in April of this year. She
believes that by coaching these girls they increased their knowledge about basketball and developed life
skills like confidence, talking to others, being a team leader, and being responsible. The team traveled all
over Southern Utah playing games on the weekends. They played games from Bryce Valley and Richfield,
all the way over to the little town of Enterprise.
At the same time Necia took on the coaching job,
she was attending Southern Utah University. At SUU the
students are required to complete an EDGE Project before
they graduate. The EDGE Project is a great opportunity to
get involved within the community and doing service. Necia
thought coaching would be the perfect EDGE Project.
For Necia Lister it wasnt just coaching the girls to get them to better their ability in basketball,
but also wanted them to develop those certain life skills each one of them will carry on throughout their
lives.
