Abstract
This paper describes the development and productionisation of a miniature Stirling cycle
cryocooler for both military and industrial applications. The design is described and the features
which overcome common Stirling cycle cryocooler failure mechanisms are highlighted.
Performance, life and environmental test data gathered from a pre-production batch of coolers is
presented. Issues arising from the integration of linear, monobloc, integrated Stirling cycle
coolers into infra-red and other systems are described. The paper concludes that long life, low
cost Stirling cycle coolers can be designed in a form suitable for volume production.
