purpose for the lesson
At the end of the lesson, the learners are able to:
1. Define the standard normal variable.
2. Converts a normal random variable to a standard
normal variable and vice versa by using the Z-score
formula and;
3. Solve problems involving converting a normal
random variable (raw score) to a standard normal
variable (z-score) and vice versa

C. Presenting examples/ Activity 1: Think-Pair-Share

instances of the new  Read and understand the problem. Have a short
lesson discussion with each other on how to answer this
kind of problem and what should be the answer.
 Write your solution and final answer on your
notebook.

After 2 minutes students will be given a chance to share

their idea on how to answer and what should be the
answer to this problem.

Guide Questions:
• Identify the familiar terms to you. What previous
topic that we learned/discussed do you think we can
relate this type of problem?
• What do you think is the best way to answer this
problem?
D. Discussing new  The teacher will discuss the definition of standard
concepts and practicing score.
new skills #1
What I Need to Know

If z-score is positive the score is above the mean. If

the z-score is zero the score is the same as the mean.
I the z-score is negative the score is below the mean.

 Class will be divided into 5 groups and will analyze

and solve the problems given guided by the steps
given on the table.
 Volunteers from each group will present their
solution and answer in front of the class.

Activity 2: (Group Activity) Solve the given problem by

following the steps and completing the table.

STEPS SOLUTION
1. Identify the given values.
2. Write the formula.
3. Substitute the given values to
the formula.
4. Perform the operations.
5. Write your final answer in a
complete sentence.
6. Write your interpretation about
the result.

Questions:
1. How did we get to solve Problem 3?
2. What are the difficulties you encountered in solving
problem 3?

Integration: PE and Health, Business Math
E. Discussing new “Problem number 3 is different from the first 2 problems
concepts and practicing because in problem 3 the missing information is the raw
new skills #2 score”
“In this kind of problem we are going to use the formula
x=μ−zσ . “
“So we will have:”

“For the next example it is your turn. Try to solve the

problem first in your notebook then I will call someone
randomly to share and explain his/her answer on the
board.”

IM: Activity Sheet No. 2

F. Developing mastery The teacher further enhances the shared information
(Leads to Formative through a discussion on converting raw score to z-score
Assessment 3) and vice versa.

The students will determine will convert the values into z-

score or raw score.

Direction: Complete the table by converting the given

values into z-score or raw score.

G. Finding practical The teacher will add up information of the uses of the
applications of concepts normal curve in real-life situations.
and skills in daily living
Example:

1. Find the z-scores for eache subject.

2. Based on you’re the answers that you got on each
subject, in which subject is his performance better?
3. How did you came up with that answer?
4. Is your answer now the same with your previous
answer?

Integration:
H. Making The teacher asks the students of their takeaways on
generalizations and converting raw score to z-score and vice versa
abstractions about the
lesson And will answer the question:
1. How do we convert a normal random variable
distribution into a standard normal random
variable distribution?
2. What is the importance of z-score?
3. To you as a student, what is the importance in
knowing these concepts of statistics (standard
normal random variable distribution) in data
gathering?”
I. Evaluating learning The students are asked to answer the following
individually:
 The teacher gives a quick quiz to the learners:
“To know how you’ve learned on today’s topic please get
½ cross-wise and answer the quiz.”

Direction: Read and understand the given problems, write

your complete solution on your paper.
1. What is the value that corresponds to a PE score of 39,
given that µ = 45 and  = 6?
2. Given the mean µ = 50 and the standard deviation  =
4 of a population of Reading scores. Find z-value that
corresponds to a score x = 58.
3. Given x = 20, µ = 26 and = 4, compute the
corresponding z-score.
1. The average score in statistics and probability
summative test is 33 with a standard deviation of 2.
Determine the standard score of Granger if his z-
score is 1.5 and Lancelot whose z-score is -0.5.
