1. SCOPE
This specification defines requirement to be fulfilled by the forging vendor for offering
steel to be used for manufacturing blanks for Hero Motors.

2. BASIC REQUIREMENT
Steel source: - as per Document HM/STEEL STD dated 1
st
April 07 and latest revision
of appendix 1.
The forger will ensure that the steel is not used for manufacturing blanks for Hero
without prior approval of Hero.

3. INSPECTION BY FORGER
The forging vendor will inspect the steel completely as per the standard given above
before offering the steel to Hero Motors.

4. SAMPLE DETAILS
The forger will submit the following samples per heat for cross checking at HML
Two billet slices (1 thick) from different billets.
One jominy sample from forged bar.

5. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS
The steel sample should be offered along with the following:-
Letter of forging party mentioning part number for which steel is offered.
Forging party should submit metallurgical test report as asked in the steel standard
mentioned above.
Original steel mill test certificate with the below mentioned parameters.
1) Name of the steel mill
2) Heat No., grade of steel, diameter, number of bars & total weight.
3) Manufacturing route
4) All inspection done by the steel mill of points 7.1 to 7.9

6. HEAT CODE APPROVAL
Hero Motors would allot Forging Punch code to approved heat. This code to be
embossed on all forgings made from that heat. Only those parts should be forged from
the heat which have been mentioned by the forger. In case, the forger needs to forge
different part from the heat prior approval to be taken.
