The Voyage

Puritans believed the trouble on the voyage was caused by Gods Providence (Gods
intervention in the world)
lusty seaman was first to die he cursed passengers and behaved rudely passengers
believed he died at the hands of a just God
Disease spread rapidly
Extremely hard journey over


The Starving Time
Within 2/3 months died (from harsh winter/scurvy)
2-3 people died a day
Unprepared for harsh winter climate
Some people were helpful to those in need helped with work and sharing food
BUT, companions began deserting one another because they did not want to get sick
People began arguing with one another
Food supply began to run out


Indian Relations
Samoset introduced Puritans to Squanto Puritans believed Squanto was sent by God
Squanto became interpreter for Puritans
Puritans and Native Americans created a treaty - treaty offered more rights to Puritans
than to Native Americans
