Provides networking model and a set of
communication protocols used for the internet and
similar networks.

Provides end to end connectivity specifying how
data should be formatted ,addressed, transmitted,
routed and received at the receiver's end.

It has four layers data link, internet, transport,
application layer.

Reliable data transfer from client to server.

Support to detect errors or lost data and to trigger
retransmission until the data is correctly received.




TCP/IP Protocol

Used to create and manage VLAN for large
network.
Used for a large network with interconnected
switches
Reduces administration in a switched network

Trunk Protocol

Two implementations :

1. Pre-shared key
Used for home and small office networks
Encryption done using 256 bit key
Provides authentication mechanism

2. Temporal integrity control protocol
Used 128 bit encryption key
Different key for different packet
Uses message integrity check algorithm
WPA
Strong encryption and authentication support
Compensates security loopholes in WPA
Uses WPA2 Pre-shared key
Uses CCMP(Counter Cipher Mode with Block
Chaining Message Authentication Code
