And youre just gonna, what, go to work like nothing happened? MASON (Temper rising) Listen, Im the farthest thing from nonchalant! You know how much money we got last night? Three hundred dollars. We killed a man for three hundred dollars, and yes, I feel fucking awful about it, are you happy? But theres nothing I can do about it. And my share of three hundred dollars isnt gonna feed my family. So yeah, Im just gonna go to work like nothing happened, and Im gonna put food on the table. JESSE Well we cant all be as resilient as you. He closes the door in Masons face. 3. EXT. LEONS TRAILER - MORNING Mason stands on Leons rundown front porch. He KNOCKS. Waits. MASON (Calling) Leon! The door swings open and Mason walks in. He looks around and sees Jesse sitting hunched over in a booth. He walks over to him and sits down. Two STEAMING cups sit on the table. JESSE You made it. MASON You made it sound pretty fuckin urgent. Whats up? JESSE Opportunity, thats what. Its knocking, man. MASON Oh, well if I knew he was coming I would have cleaned up more. He sips from his mug. MASON (CONTD) What is this anyway? JESSE Pumpkin latte. MASON What the fuck is that? JESSE It doesnt matter whats in the damn mug, alright? This is serious. MASON Okay, okay. Whats this opportunity? MASON What do you suggest then? Selling insurance? JESSE Thats what I wanted to tell you. I got in touch with a guy who I think might be able to solve our problems. MASON What do you mean? JESSE Hes got a job for us. Easy one. One thatll net us all a lot of cash. MASON Whats the job? JESSE I dont know. MASON Whos the guy? JESSE I dont know. MASON Youre not a great pitch man, Jesse. Where did you even meet this guy? Or whoever hes using to set up meetings? Why does he think youd be so good for this job? JESSE Just trust me, man. He wants us to meet him at the warehouse complex outside of town. Come with me, well find out what it is we need to do. (CONTINUED) CONTINUED: (3) 8. MASON So you want me to come with you to an abandoned warehouse to meet a criminal you dont know so that he can supposedly make us a lot of money for very little effort. Jesse is silent. MASON (contd) Yeah, fuck you. JESSE Mas-- MASON And why just me? What about Danny and Leon? JESSE I figured you wouldnt wanna bring Danny until we knew what was up. MASON And Leon? JESSE (Beat) ...Hes dangerous, man. I dont trust him, hes fucking crazy. MASON Look, I dont like what Leon did anymore than you do, but Ive known him for twenty years. I trust him. I gotta get going. Dont do this. Youre going to get yourself killed. JESSE I heard about the layoffs at the plant. What are we supposed to do now? MASON I dont know. But not this. 9. EXT. MASONS TRAILER - NIGHT Mason stands outside his fathers trailer, seemingly preparing. He exhales and goes inside. INT. MASONS TRAILER - CONT Mason enters. JESSE I was drinking this morning. MASON Always a good way to start business. JESSE I was drinking this morning at Macks, and some guy who called himself Mr. Torrance came up to me. He said he knew of me and what I did, and that I should come by. MASON Wait, what? These guys have been watching us? Christ. What do they even want with us? Were nothing special.
