Formative assessment

For the Formative Assessment for this module we need you to present a case
scenario (from your own case load) to the rest of the group and one of the tutors.
You may do this with the help of a PowerPoint presentation or using other audio-
visual aids. There is a 10 minute limit on the presentation so you must be concise
and direct.

Remember to maintain confidentiality during the assessment by not naming
individuals or names of specific healthcare organisations. It may however be
important to describe the cultural and organisational context in which you work as
this may have a bearing upon the case scenario. If you use photographs within the
presentation you must be able to provide the tutor with a consent form signed and
dated by the individual in the photographs.

You need to give:
some background information on your patient
an explanation of the assessment and treatment process
a justification of the decisions taken.
o how you approached assessment - were you aiming to identify
physiotherapy problems, clinical needs and/or interventions
o what approaches to reasoning were used
o what theories, approaches and/or concepts guided your assessment
o what factors impacted upon your assessment and treatment process.

It is expected that the case study you choose for your formative assessment will be
the same case study that you develop for your summative assignment.

You will receive verbal feedback from the group discussion in terms of additional
points to consider and aspects to develop for the summative work. This discussion
will be facilitated by the tutor. It is your responsibility to record the key action points
in a way that suits your learning style. For example, you could record the verbal
discussion as an audio file - or write some key points in your own notes.

Formative assessment is on the 13
th
October during the face-to-face classroom
session.
