AWOLNATION Not Your Fault

Not Your Fault is Track 12 of the album Megalithic Symphony by AWOLNATION. It didnt get very far on the
charts at all, and it only made it into the top 30 in Canada. The music video was uploaded to Youtube on 22
November 2011. Its genre is electronic rock and classed as indie electronic on iTunes.

The music video for this song uses a number of techniques, mixing real stills from stop motion technology
and even clay animation stop motion with real life filming of the lead singer of AWOLNATION which has had
a filter overlayed so that he moves in a stop motion fashion. The sound is meant to line up with the artists
singing however the mouth movements are very distorted. The verses are played alongside the singing and
the choruses play alongside the animation.

The Lighting in these videos is meant to line up with the animated background used in the video, with the
lighting being bright and centred on the daylight mountains whereas the lighting is soft and above the
singer when in the space scene. The lighting in the animation plays similarly, because the animations are all
on a small set, they have small fill lights above them the majority of the time.

Camera shots in the music video consist of a single repetitive shot during the scenes with the lead singer
which is a medium shot. During the animation however it uses a number of shots, like a medium two shot,
a wide shot, and even close up shots as well.

Props:
As this video is animated, props you could say is the clay animation figures, but if we consider the stop
motion people as people, then the props are things like weapons and space suits etc. The lead singer
doesnt use a prop once during the video.

Mise-en-Scene:
The Mise en scene and composition of the video are constantly focused on individuals, it doesnt ever use
any scenery shots, but your focus is always meant to be on a particular character at as specific time. The
background is meant to have a lower proportion in relation to the amount of the character shown in the
video. The lighting is meant to look realistic in terms of the scenario even though the scenario is meant to
look fake.
