Informational Interview #2
For my second informational interview, I interviewed my moms friend Jigna atel! Jigna
is a "#ysical t#era"ist w#o is c$rrently wor%ing towards #er #& in #ealt# sciences and "#ysical
t#era"y from '$tgers (niversity in New Jersey! S#e wants to )e a "rofessor and do researc# in
"#ysical t#era"y and s#es c$rrently a teac#ing assistant! S#e still wor%s "er diem at an ac$te
re#a)ilitation center as a "#ysical t#era"ist! I learned t#at now to )ecome a "#ysical t#era"ist,
one m$st get a doctorate in "#ysical t#era"y! S#e ma*ored in "#ysical t#era"y in college and got
#er )ac#elors degree and co$ld "ractice )$t t#at #as since c#anged! S#e said t#at #er favorite "art
of t#e "#ysical t#era"y *o) is ma%ing a difference in t#e lives of #er "atients and #er least
favorite "art is dealing wit# t#e ins$rance laws and medicare reg$lations t#at govern #ow m$c#
time s#e can s"end wit# a "atient! S#e said t#at a + needs to wor% well wit# "eo"le and )e very
organi,ed and em"at#etic! -s someone "$rs$ing a #&, s#e said t#at )eing driven to learn
somet#ing new is incredi)ly im"ortant!
For me "artic$larly, I do not t#in% t#at I want to )e a "rofessor li%e Jigna is going to
)ecome! .owever, t#e "#ysical t#era"y field is somet#ing t#at is very interesting to me )eca$se
it is a career t#at really im"acts t#e lives of "eo"le! I t#in% t#at t#is ty"e of *o) definitely aligns
wit# my val$es and )eliefs )eca$se #el"ing "eo"le is one of t#e main re/$irements t#at I #ave
for a "otential career! 0i%e I mentioned in my "revio$s interview, I am loo%ing to com)ine t#e
#ealt# care field wit# some sort of )$siness! -lt#o$g# "#ysical t#era"y is strictly #ealt# care,
Jigna mentioned t#at s#e was a s$"ervisor in an ac$te re#a)ilitation setting at JF1 #os"ital and
alt#o$g# s#e didnt li%e it, I t#in% t#at I mig#t li%e t#at sort of *o)!
I t#in% t#at Jigna was an e2cellent so$rce of information for me! -lt#o$g# I do not want
to )e a "rofessor, I t#in% t#at s#e still "rovided me wit# a lot of val$a)le information a)o$t
"#ysical t#era"y alt#o$g# s#e #as decided to move f$rt#er wit# t#e "#ysical t#era"y! S#e #as
two da$g#ters and s#e #as )een a)le to )alance all of #er vario$s classes, wor%ing in a la) and
occasionally wor%ing as a "#ysical t#era"ist w#ile raising #er da$g#ters! 0oo%ing forward, I
t#in% t#at I wo$ld li%e to e2"lore a .3S ma*or or minor and researc# ot#er fields t#at I can wor%
in t#at com)ine )$siness and #ealt# care!
