    Nellie Bly was a pioneering American journalist born in 1864. She left school after one semester and got her first job writing articles for the Pittsburgh Dispatch in 1885. She became known for her investigative journalism exposing poor conditions and corruption. In 1887, she got a job with the New York World and famously feigned insanity to expose the abusive treatment of women in mental asylums. In 1889, she proposed traveling around the world faster than the character Phileas Fogg from the book Around the World in Eighty Days. She completed the trip in 72 days, pioneering global travel reporting.
