LCT Overview

In this chapter, you will learn about:
Basic concepts of the LCT.
Functions and features of the ZXONM E300 LCT.
Basic Concepts
The LCT is short for Local Craft Terminal. The following describes relation
between the ZXONM E300 LCT and NEs as well as LCT composition.
1. Relation among the ZXONM E300 LCT, the main EMS, and NEs
Figure 1 shows relation among the ZXONM E300 LCT, the main EMS,
and NEs.

ZXONM E300 LCT: local craft terminal
Manager: ZXONM E300 server
GUI: ZXONM E300 client
NE: managed network elements

2 Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

The ZXONM E300 LCT can gain local and remote access to NEs. It
implements commissioning and maintenance of a single NE and
monitors working status of NEs.
2. System composition
Composition of the ZXONM E300 LCT is the same as that of the ZXONM
E300 marked with dashed lines in Figure 1.
The ZXONM E300 LCT integrates the GUI, the Manager, and the
Database (which is not displayed in Figure 1). They are installed in a
same computer, providing minor NE management.
Functions of the GUI, the Manager, and the Database in the ZXONM
E300 LCT are listed as follows:
i. Manager
It is also called a server. The Manager sends management
messages to NEs and receives announcements from NEs. The
Manager stores all the network management data in the Database,
for example, basic data of the system management, the
configuration management, and the alarm maintenance.
The Manager of the EMS sets operation rights of the ZXONM E300
LCT. As shown in Figure 1, the Manager marked with dashed lines
decides rights of the LCT to configure and control NEs.
ii. GUI
It is also called a client. The GUI provides graphic user interfaces
and converts the requirements of user management into the
messages in the internal formats. Then the client delivers them to
the Manager.
Operation interfaces of the ZXONM E300 LCT are consistent with
the ZXONM E300 GUI.
iii. Database
The Database is used to query information about interfaces and
management function modules, store information and process data
consistency.
For the ZXONM E300 LCT, the Database is an SQL Server database.
Functions and Features
1. Applies the SQL Server as support for the Database.
2. The rights of to manage or control NEs must be granted by the main
EMS.
3. The style of LCT operation interfaces is consistent with that of the
ZXONM E300 operation interfaces.
4. The LCT manages a single NE only.
5. The LCT does not enable you to configure many NEs, such as
configuring Multiplex Section Protection, NE connections, and VLANs.
The LCT does not provide the function of uploading network data,

Chapter 1 LCT Overview

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION 3
uploading comparison, and downloading. In addition, the LCT does not
implement management of security, reports, and services.
6. The main EMS decides the number of NEs accessing the LCT. Without
EMS authorization, NEs only allow LCT with a default manager ID to
log in and perform management. In other words, only one valid LCT
can exist.
7. By default, the LCT manages up to five NEs. By changing the
environment variable, you can change the number of managed NEs.
8. The LCT does not participate in main/slave switchover of the EMS.

Precautions

1. LCT runs abnormally because the virtual memory of the laptop is too
low.
On a low-configuration laptop, the Windows operating system may run
abnormally due to the insufficient virtual memory. For example, when
the number of NEs is great, login may costs a long time and you may
fail in logging in to the database.
To ensure normal running of the Windows operating system, expand
the size of the virtual memory.
2. Methods used by the LCT EMS to back up and restore data
There are two methods for the LCT EMS to back up and restore data.
Select the DB backup/restore menu.
On the LCT operation window, select System -> System Data
Management -> DB Backup or Restore, and then set the DB
Backup/Restore dialog box.

3. The LCT handles network data.
The LCT only manages a single NE. With the LCT, you cannot configure
network data, upload and download data, such as configuring NE
connections, Multiplex Section Protection groups, multiplex topology,
and VLANs .
You can configure network data just described, upload, and download
data by the main EMS.
4. The LCT prompts that the number of NEs is beyond the range.
In the following two cases, the LCT prompts that the number of NEs is
beyond the range.
Log in to the LCT client. If the number of selected NEs in the Select
NE to display dialog box is beyond the range, click Apply. Then an
alert box appears, as shown in Figure 37.

section of Setting the Number of NEs Managed by LCT in Chapter 2 for
details.

Note: After changing the value of the ZTEMAXLCTNENUM variable, restart
the server and GUI of the LCT to validate the settings.

5. Data sources of NEs in the LCT
The LCT can use two kinds of data sources to monitor and manage
NEs.
To restore the NE data from the backed up data of NE
In the LCT client operation window, select System -> System
Data Management -> DB Backup or Restore. Then in the DB
Backup/Restore dialog box as shown in Figure 34, choose to
restore the NE data from the backed up databases of NE. Then
LCT will use the restored data to monitor and manage the NE.
