Program Notes: Das Schweben
Das Schweben germen words, means flotation, I used it to describe the movement of the sing.
This piece began in A minor with 6/8 time. Melody was rather sad with a chromatic descending
base. Following by the main theme, the repetition appeared in octave higher. It described the
competition of the children who played on the swing. Then, a brightness and joyful sounds were
created in A major.
In the middle section, an unstable emotion expressed in a sequence of same harmonic progressions
(ii, V, I) in different keys. Finally, it modulated to G major. The tempo was gradually slowing down
with an unexpected ending. It showed that the children left slowly with nostalgia for the happy time.
