Question 2B (20 marks)

Read the text below.
My neighbour, Mr Mali, is a driver in a nearby sugar estate. However, before starting work at
seven in the morning, he has another activity which brings an additional income for his family.
At the back of his house, he grows a variety of vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, beans and
some green leafy vegetables, and a range of herbs like thyme, coriander and mint.
Every morning, before sunrise, Mr Mali is already in his garden. He ploughs the soil and
prepares the beds. His wife helps him to sow the seeds, water the plants and pick the
vegetables. Sometimes, their son, who is my classmate, joins them to do odd jobs like filling
the watering cans or throwing away the litter.
Mr Mali usually sells his produce to a vegetable seller in the village market. People in the
neighbourhood also buy herbs and vegetables from Mr Malis garden. They are always full of
praise for the quality and freshness of the products.
Mrs Mali grows fruit trees and flowers in her yard as a hobby. In her front garden one can
admire beautiful roses, marigolds and bright coloured zinnias. I am not a florist. My flowers
are too precious for me to sell them, she says to people who offer to buy her flowers.
Sometimes, in the morning, I watch them from my window. I would have liked to join them
just for fun. But I dont think it is fun to wake up so early every day. It is also not enjoyable to
work so hard before going to school or work.

Circle the correct answer for questions 1-8.
