Objectives
Applications
The designed system can be used in:
1. Domestic purposes - home applications
2. Public services such as malls, parks
3. Heavy industry.
Conclusions
The goals of this project are:
1. Build a model of an offshore oil wellhead platform
2. Design an alarm and control system of the platform
3. Test the performance of the emergency system under different alarm conditions
4. Explore possibilities of systems improvement
So far, the system procedure is running as planned. Installation of the process piping and instruments is done. What is remaining
is to connect the PLC with power supply and to the input and output parameters, then run the whole system and create the alarm
conditions and troubleshoot.
Equipment
1. PLC
2. Water pump, pressure controller &
water tank
3. Solenoid valves
4. Polytron FX: combustible gases and
vapors detector with I to V
converter
5. Solar panel & back up batteries
6. Alarm Sounder & light indicators
7. Pressure switches
8. Temperature switch
PLC software
Experimental Setup/Procedure
Pressure Switches have been tested in workshop, PSH = 30 psi - PSL = 10 psi. Solar Panel was tested with open circuit
voltage=19.3 V for each panel, 100 watts. Current to voltage converter have been tested in the electronic workshop. 4-20 mA to 0-
24 volts. PLC ladder logic program software functioning test have been done in the PLC lab, bush buttons and indication lights
used as the inputs and outputs. The program functioned perfectly regard to alarm conditions, ESD1, ESD2, ESD3 , HT & HL alarm.
