In class:
Literacy: This week we reviewed story
structure. Students identified
characters and setting and described
the plot of several stories. We will
continue focusing on this reading
strategy next week.

Math: Students took their Unit 1 test
yesterday. We will begin Unit 2 on
Monday. This unit will focus on addition
and subtraction of whole numbers. We
will review fact families, solve number
stories, and review adding and
subtracting multi-digit numbers. Please
look for the Unit 2 Family Letter in
todays Friday Folder for more
information.

Writing: We have started our Author
Study writing unit! During this unit,
students will write like the beloved
childrens author, Kevin Henkes. So far,
we have read several of his books and
noticed his writing techniques. Students
have also started learning about the
structure of Henkes stories. Ask your
child to explain the triangular story
structure to you!
