Week of August 17 Decemebr

Reading: This week in reading we will be preparing to take the Unit 3 Benchmark Test. Each day we will review different test taking strategies and skills and take a portion of the test. There are 6 sections /stories we will be tested on. How can you help? Encourage your child to read carefully, look in the text for the answers and to take his/her time. Also, remember, read every night and encourage your child to stay focused on reading books for Accelerated Reader! Read each night and fill in the Reading Log, remember it must be signed by a parent/guardian. Your child should be reading at least (minimum) 20 minutes each day. More than that is good too! Writing: Persuasive Writing We are finishing our Persuasive Writing unit as we complete our book reviews. The children have to summarize a book they have read, reveal their favorite part, and determine a point the author was trying to make. After students complete a book review with teacher support, they will write another one completely independently on Friday as their winter writing prompt. Math: Multiplication and Geometry The multiplication test will be on Wednesday. This will cover all facts through 12 x 12. On Thursday we will begin our unit on Geometry. Please continue to study math facts each night. Social Studies: Revolutionary War We will begin our study of colonial South Carolina which will conclude with the Revolutionary War and the start of the new government. We will start with the causes and lead up to the Revolutionary War. Look for your child to share facts as he learns about this important part of our history.
