WHY KIDS DROP OUT OF SCHOOL

Our image as grade 9s in the GPCHS is

that people think we dont show up to class, we dont
care about school and fail in our classes so we will
just drop out of school eventually and not graduate.
Even though some grade 9s dont care about their
schooling, we do.
Older students think of us as the bottom of a
metaphorical ladder in school and think we are
afraid of the grade 12s and that we are timid. We
may seem that way but we are actually confident
individuals who care about our education.

Where did my life go?
Wasting away at this
part time job,
no direction in life,
my life used to be different.
I used to have a dream,
a chance to change things.
I left my education early
to fulfill those dreams
the dreams that I never fulfilled.
Now here I am,
my dreams lost,
flipping burgers at minimum wage

This poem No More is explaining how a student

had dreams of getting a good job and living their life and
they thought they would get a head start on their dream
and dropout of school to fulfill that dream. It didnt work
out, they lost their dream and they have no more. The
poem and the article are similar because they are both
talking about how/why students drop out of school and
how it can consequently ruin a potentially good and
fulfilled life.

This quote from Barack Obama is quite

meaningful, even if we are Canadian. It is saying that
when you drop out of school you hurt more than just
yourself, your choice can even influence your country.
Obamas quote shows us that no matter why you dropped
out, everything that you care for will be hurt as well as the
things and people that care for you. Dropping out of
school is not an option because we are counting on the
individuals of Canada and every talent and value is
important and needed for our country to thrive.

This cartoon is giving us an example of a sad

ratio of how many students drop out and dont graduate:
4:7. This cartoon is showing that kids who drop out of
school almost drop out of the big picture too. They dont
get the awesome education, the great paying job, the
good reputation. They are missing out on the good life.
This relates to the article because they both talk about
kids dropping out of school/not graduating. We care about
our learning and want to do well.
