    Geography Project: Heritage Cities Tour Package

    Grade 8 Social Studies Ms. Thomson


    We have looked at the history of many places and how they were affected by
    global expansion. Now we will take a closer look at specific cities to see how history and
    exploration shape urban spaces. We will also learn about efforts to conserve historic
    areas in heritage cities.
    As we discuss the factors of heritage cities and urban development in class, you
    will be working on a tour package for a specific heritage city in groups of 2 or 3. You must
    choose a city from the list and sign up with me as soon as possible no two groups can do
    the same city.
    PROJECT GUIDELINES:
    Part 1: Written Intro to your heritage city tour package

    Explain the characteristics of a heritage city (info can be found in the notes, online
    or in your geography textbook)
    Which characteristics does your city meet and why?
    What threats to world heritage sites face? What challenges does your particular
    city face? What is being done to protect it?
    In your opinion, why is it important to protect and conserve heritage cities?

    Part 2: Tourism brochure or video

    You will outline a tour for your heritage city


    You must include:
    o A map
    o 5 historical sites with pictures and a description of their significance
    - Any other important info for tourists

    You will be graded as follows:
