Daily SWBAT (Know + Do)] Objective:


SWBAT demonstrate their knowledge of The Highwayman by utilizing technology in
order to give life to the tone, mood, and plot by creating an iMovie trailer.
Daily Warm-Up/Bell Ringer:
Monday: Vocabulary Workshop (L.7.5b + L.7.6)
Tuesday: Journal Writing

Connect new learning to previous:
Class Discussion: These trailers and summaries bring an example of the overall theme
and plot of the movie/book. For example: The Guardians of the Galaxy trailer shows
funny examples of Starlord and witty dialogue between the characters. What did this
create for the movie?
Purpose/Relevance:
Completing a visual media project to capture the essence of the poem, The
Highwayman.
Challenge initial understanding:
So, if you were to create a trailer for The Highwayman what are the types of moods
and scenes that the trailer would show?
Concept/Skill Development & Guided Practice:
Focus Lesson/Teacher Modeling/Think Aloud -- I DO IT
1. Teacher will present the iMovie project to the students.
1. Teacher will explain that this iMovie needs to not only encapsulate one of the
moods the poem portrays but also needs to include the major scenes from the
poem.

Guided Practice/Teacher Led/Student Think Aloud -- WE DO IT


1. As a class we will review the rubric for the iMovie project.
Collaborative Practice -- YOU DO IT TOGETHER
1. Students will be paired up into groups of 4 or 5.
2. In groups students will decide upon a trailer to film for their iMovie using the page 275 in
their RED literature books.
3. Students will be given no more than 30 minutes in the quad to film their trailer.
4. After their allotted 30 minutes students will be redirected back to the classroom to edit
their clips and add needed extras.
Independent Practice -- YOU DO IT ALONE:
1. Items that do not get completed in class will have to be completed on their own.
Assessment:
The completion of their iMovie.
