4.

DESIGNATED PERSON

4.1

Purpose

M/V DODO

The DPA has the authority and responsibility for resolving safety problems.
He provides the primary link between vessel and shore on all matters related to safety, health and
pollution prevention.
He reports directly to the Managing Director.
4.2

Responsibilities
Ensuring that the SMS meets the requirements of the ISM Code Administration of the SMS
and maintenance of the various manuals
Development of an annual Internal Audit Plan covering the operations of Shoreside offices
and individual vessels
Organization of such internal audits including appointment of auditors Analysis of the
resultant audit reports
Investigation of the cause(s) of non-conformities and handling of non-conformity reports.
Follows up required corrective and/or preventive action (as a result of non-conformance
reports and results of internal/external audits)
Initiating and monitoring corrective actions as necessary Organization of the annual
Management Review of the SMS
Reporting to senior management in order to improve continually the SMS. Keeping the
vessels informed of any developments relating to the scope of the ISM Code.
Overall supervision of preparation and implementation of training within the organisation
(shore and ship-based personnel).
Identification of training needs (along with other managers) and follow up of training
conduct and performance of trainees.
Required liaison with certification body on matters relating to companys SMS

4.3

Authority
To advise the General Manager of any action he considers necessary in the fulfillment of
the above responsibilities.
To take any action considered necessary in the resolution of safety and/or environmental
problems.
To report directly to the General Manager any matter, which he feels, he is unable to deal
with on his own authority.

Qualifications
Qualifications: Master Mariner, Chief Engineer or Naval architect with a minimum of 2 years
seagoing experience on dry cargo vessels in such a position or experience in ISM
management, surveys, for a minimum of 5 years for naval architects.

4.5

Delegation of Duties

The DPA may delegate the execution of internal audits and any management of paperwork to third
parties.
4.6

Appointment of a Deputy

In the case of the DPA's extended absence from the office (whether due to illness, leave or other
commitments), the Technical Manager undertakes his responsibilities.
The identity and period of tenure (if known) of such deputy is then circulated within the
Company's offices, to the Agencies abroad and to the Masters of all vessels by the fastest means
available.
