It is often said that Actions speak louder than words.

It is truly depicted in the latest ranbir

blockbuster Barfi where ranbir plays a deaf and mute person. His performance is equally
complemented by Priyanka chopra(who plays an autistic girl) & Bollywood newcomer Ileana DCruz.
After his disastrous venture Kites, director Anurag Basu comes back to Bollywood with a bang with
Barfi. Just to let the readers know, Anurag Basu is well known for his commercially successful movies
like Murder and Life In a Metro. In Barfi, Anurag does away with crutches of a sign language and
a voice-over.
Barfi has a hypnotic effect on the audience. Within no time at all, you are swept into the
protagonists wold, the two lovely ladies who breeze in and out his existence and various other
characters, all etched with a compassion and vividness that one can associate with the cinema of
Frank Capra and Ritwik Ghatak.
Its a story which dates back to the radio age of Kolkata, Murphy aka Barfi (Ranbir) falls in love with
the pretty Shruti(Ileana) only to realise later that she is engaged to marry someone else.
Disheartened, he wishes Shruti good luck with her marriage life and decides to move on. After a few
years of marriage, Shruti realises that she is still in love with Murphy and sets out on a journey to
find him. She meets Murphy and realises that he is being chased by the police. She then finds out
that Murphy is actually in love with the autistic Jhilmil(Priyanka). Realising the importance of true
love, the story dramatically ends with both Jhilmil and Murphy dying at old age.
Priyankas autistic character could have been slightly modified, but it is Ranbir who steals the show.
Ileana with her dainty charm gives her 100% in her debut. The detailing of the movie is also very
commendable, for example, the chhau dance form of Purulia district of west Bengal has been
depicted beautifully.
The photography and music provide additional grace to the already existing charm of the movie.
Hats off to Pritam!!!
To conclude, Barfi celebrates life without dismissing the daring passages and roadblocks that we
often encounter as we travel through that craggy road to death. Barfi comes as close to being a
modern masterpiece as cinematically possible. It has also earned the official entry to the Oscars as
well.
So I daresay, if you guys are looking for a different, lightening cinematic experience, then Barfi is a
treat to your eyes. Missing it would be a crime!!!
