Dear Mr. and Mrs. Student:
I am John's Marketing teacher. John is a wonderful student who has displayed some really
innovative ideas in his course work. At times, his work is very detailed and creative. However, I need to
inform you that there is a repetitious behavior issue that has not been resolved. Your son has been using
their cell phone during class time when it is not appropriate to do so. I have verbally addressed and
discussed this issue with him two times earlier this week, with no change in behavior. Today brings this
week's total to three times. I feel it is important that you aware of these instances.
Since we have computers in this classroom, there is very little need for any student to use their
cell phone. I do allow them to listen to music on their cell phones when I specifically give them
permission. Use of the cell phone, at other times, is disruptive to their learning and disruptive to other
students in the classroom. There is no need for any of my students to be texting, on Facebook, playing
games or browsing YouTube videos during classroom time unless it is part of the research for their
assignment. This was not the case on any of these previous occasions, nor today's incident. I also feel that
this disruption is hindering John's ability to learn to the best of their ability.
I sincerely hope that I can count on your support in this matter. Please refer back to the classroom
policies and procedures that were reviewed with all of the students and sent home at the beginning of the
semester for your signature. If John cannot abide by the rules, then I must ask that he keep his device in
his backpack for the entire class period or not bring it to school at all. I strongly feel that John can be very
successful in this class if he does not distract himself. I am available after school each day if John needs
extra help.
After you speak to John, I would appreciate it if you both would sign and date this notice that you
understand my concerns. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please feel free to call me after
