Subject: Day 2: Scheduling Chore Chart

Standards:
7.0 - PERFORM GENERAL OFFICE MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS

9-10.RST.3 - Follow precisely a complex multistep procedure when carrying out experiments, taking
measurements, or performing technical tasks, attending to special cases or exceptions defined in the text.
9-10.RST.7 - Translate quantitative or technical information expressed in words in a text into visual form (e.g., a
table or chart) and translate information expressed visually or mathematically (e.g., in an equation) into words.
Objective:
The students will be able to read and create a chore schedule
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable Behaviors):
Ability to read and follow a work schedule, apply efficient and effective work schedule for one month based upon
the criteria given by the teacher
Key vocabulary:
Absent, temporary, permanent, schedule/scheduled, shift,
time off work

Materials/Technology Resources to be Used:


PowerPoint, whiteboard, erasable markers,
scheduling worksheets

Opening (Anticipatory Set):


Bell work: Students will add the vocabulary words and definitions to their vocabulary journal, that the teacher has
showing on the projector
Teacher will briefly review the previous days content and check for understanding, further explaining anything
necessary
Teacher will ask if anyone in class does chores at home and if any family uses a chore chart; have the students
ever seen a chore chart, etc.

Teacher Will:
Show a PowerPoint of a single person's agenda:
daily/weekly/monthly, a chore chart for multiple
people and describe the formatting.
PPT will also include when persons are not
available to work
Check for understanding at various points using

Provide a worksheet using characters of a
"castle/under sea/candy island/etc." or other setting

Student Will:
Provide the instructor with their class schedule
and answer questions

Student Will:
Suggest a setting and chores (as creative as they
want)

Independent Practice

of their choosing. Students will be asked to pick out


a variety of chores needing to be done (e.g., clean
out the dragon stall; cook the witch's brew, etc.)
Each person has duties (chores) and we need to put
them into a monthly chore chart, based upon the
availability and skills of the characters.
Student that suggests a chore that is chosen will
pick a "crew" of 2 people who are assigned to that
chore.
Teacher Will:

When directed by the teacher, a student will


choose their chore mates and they will move to
a directed part of the room.
When all students have an assigned chore
group, they will work to create a usable group
monthly chore schedule.
Depending on time allowance, the schedules
from each group will be combined into one
class schedule, with the help of the teacher
Student Will:

Have students create a "chore" schedule and


incorporate a variety of duties from within the
classroom or a home setting
Walk the room for academic feedback, student
progress and check for understanding

Complete the worksheet based upon the given


criteria
May work with a shoulder partner or in small
groups of 3, provided they stay on task and are
not simply copying one another

Closure:
Teacher will ask students to share their worksheets with the class and explain their reasoning to the best of their
ability
Ticket Out the Door:
Students will turn in the worksheets completed during the class
Accommodations:
Teacher will teach content vocabulary.
Teacher will follow all I.E.P.s for students with special needs.
Teacher will create note pages for all students with special needs.
