EXPERIENCE______________________________________________________________________________ Lab Assistant St. Thomas University Spring 2012-Present Plant Science Lab Manager School of Science Handled multifaceted laboratory tasks (e.g., sterilize instruments, make culture media, transfer plants to new media biweekly) as the assistant to the Plant Science Lab. Prepared the students lab for different laboratory sessions. Quickly became a trusted assistant known for can do attitude, flexibility and highquality work, thus, was promoted as the lab manager. Currently, my responsibilities include maintaining, replacing equipment, and replenishing materials that are used regularly. Summer Research St. Thomas University March 2013-Present Internship II USDA-ARS Somatic Embryogenesis in Theobroma cacao from the National Germplasm Repository. The established protocol of Somatic Embryogenesis was applied to perform secondary embryogenesis using cotyledonary explants from genotypes that responded to primary embryogenesis. Different cacao genotypes were obtained from USDA greenhouse to test the effect of time in different culture media have on the explants response to somatic embryogenesis. Embryos obtained from secondary embryogenesis are used for tertiary embryogenesis with the purpose of regenerating more embryos. Summer Research U.S. Department of Agriculture June 2012- August 2012 Internship I ARS Explored anther culture in Theobroma cacao and gained exposure to different fields of study in agriculture. Brain Fair Miami Childrens Museum March 2014 Involved in teaching youngsters from different grade levels about the brain and its functions and provided them with hands on experiences through dissection of sheep brains. Participated in teaching young people about the ways in which the brain operate to send information to the rest of the body.
