I chose prompt 3A for this notebook because I had recently done research for this class.
We were supposed to research for our profile that we would be doing. I chose to research about
Susan B. Anthony because she fought for feminism and gender equality, which was my social
justice issue. When I first began my research in the SLCC database I was confused. I had never
used such an advanced search engine, that didnt just include webpages. As I researched more
and clicked on my search options I understood what information and sources each search result
had. I found it best when the sources were either eBooks or had PDF files so I could view either
the entire book, or certain areas I needed from the book or article. I encountered a lot of reading
and skimming through pages. I wanted to make sure the book or articles I was choosing had the
information I needed because even though I researched Susan B. Anthony Biography, some of
the search results had no relevance to my subject. I wasnt expecting there to be so much
information in the database. I thought I would have to spend hours trying to find my way
through articles I searched on Google and reading until I found something with facts. I was
pleased with my research option to use a database, and I did not use google once or Wikipedia.
I think this research helped me understand that searching things through Google isnt always the
best option. I learned a lot more about Susan B. Anthony and I gathered useful and fulfilling
research and sources for my profile I will be writing.
