"My Papa's Waltz"
by Theodore Roethke
The whiskey on your breath

Commented [CQ1]: A bar

Could make a small boy dizzy;

Commented [CQ2]: Small birds flying around

someones head

But I hung on like death:

Commented [CQ3]: A monkey

Such waltzing was not easy.

Commented [CQ4]: Old fashion dance

We romped until the pans

Commented [CQ5]: A mess

Slid from the kitchen shelf;

Commented [CQ6]: A beautiful kitchen nice and

organized

My mother's countenance

Commented [CQ7]: A caring women

Could not unfrown itself.

Commented [CQ8]: Being happy

The hand that held my wrist

Commented [CQ9]: Grabbing someone

Was battered on one knuckle;

Commented [CQ10]: Cookies

At every step you missed

Commented [CQ11]: Stairs

My right ear scraped a buckle.

Commented [CQ12]: A scratch

You beat time on my head

Commented [CQ13]: Someone hitting some

With a palm caked hard by dirt,

Commented [CQ14]: Mud, dirt

Quintanilla2

Then waltzed me off to bed

Commented [CQ15]: Old fashion dance

Still clinging to your shirt.

Commented [CQ16]: Not letting go
