Readers Workshop Observation

CT introduced the book and the topic (Predicting)


CT made a prediction first
She used a text guide to help students make a prediction ex. I Predict
because
.
Students made a prediction about the book in their readers notebook
o They shared with their neighbor and then with the whole class
They stopped as a whole group and went back to their seats and used the predicting strategy
with their own books
o I noticed that the teacher had them assigned Ito different places in the classroom to
read independently each week
During readers workshop, the special education teacher took a group of students to the back
table who were all on the same level and they read the same book to practice predicting
The CT went around to different students to conference about their reading
After 35 min of independent reading the class came back together to share with their neighbor
their prediction they made
CT mentioned to students to do this at home while their reading
o I thought this was a good reminder for the students to practice at home because there is
only so much time they have in the classroom for reading so they need to practice
outside of reading time too
Students used sticky notes to keep track and write down notes and they had to turn them into
the teacher so that she could check to see if they were on track
