Week 6 of 7: Final Drafting:

Three 90 Minute Class Periods:


Day 1:
Procedure:
-

Warm-Up: Students will write about the revision process last week, and how the
feedback they got influenced their process as they move forward with their research
reports. (10 mins)
Conference: Instructors will conference with students that seek help and those that are
struggling with the revision process. After which, the instructors will compile a list of
concept that students were struggling to show in their writing. This will be the basis of
the scaffolding for the rest of the week. (70 mins)
Wrap-up: Have students submit a ticket out the door that states how they feel the
revision process is improving their work. (10 mins)

Understandings:

Students will learn what it is that they are struggling with in their own writing.
Students will begin to develop skills to improve their writing.

Assessments:
-

Warm-up: This will be a formative assessment for the instructors to see how well the
Round Robin Revision went.
Conference: This will be summative assessments to find what skills and concepts should
be emphasized later in the week.
Ticket out the Door: This formative assessment will further show which students are
simply oppositional or struggling with the concept of revision.

Day 2:
Procedure:

Review: The instructor will synthesize the findings of the warm-ups from day one, and
seek to understand how to improve the approach (10 mins).
Model: Depending on the feedback gathered from the first day of this week, the
instructor will design contextual activities that test the skills shown lacking through the
revision process and formative assessments from the previous class.
Ticket out the door: Students will explain one thing they learned from the model activity
and how they will apply it to their drafts.

Understanding:

Students will articulate what they struggle with in the drafting process.
Students will improve on the skills they found themselves to be struggling with earlier in
the unit or week.

Assessments:
-

Review: This summative assessment allows the teacher to gauge the best way to model
writing skills.
Model: This activity is designed to model and scaffold the skills necessary to write an
argumentative report.
Ticket out the door: This summative assessment will determine the effectiveness of the
modeling activity.

Day 3:
Procedure:
-

Present a Final Draft: During the first portion of this class students will see how a final
draft should look. Student will be able to compare their drafts to the finished copy (25
mins).
Drafting: Students will have the majority of the class to revise, conference, or polish
their current drafts (60 mins).
Wrap-up: Instructors will remind the students that their projects are due electronically by
Sunday by noon. Students are encouraged to turn in hard copies on this day (5 mins).

Students will engage in every step of the drafting process.

Assessments:

The Research Report: This culminating text will summatively assess all the skills and
standards for this unit.
