READING ROCKS!

Mrs. Hopkins

FAQs
1. What is a read aloud?!
Read aloud is a brief time during regular class period in which the teacher
stops instruction and asks the students to stop working in order to read/listen
to a book. This book is not related to you regular class assignment, you will
not be tested on this book (though you may have class discussions about it),
and you do not have to do questions, activities, or any other type of
assessment for this book.

2. What does it behoove me to do while the teacher is reading aloud to me?

It behooves you to sit quietly, listen actively, and not disrupt the class. You
may not leave to use the bathroom, work on something for this or any other
class, write, talk, or fidget unnecessarily. Im easy-going, but it behooves
you to realize that I am SUPER SERIOUS about reading and if you disrupt
our read aloud time I might just show the California-hissy-fit side of me
not pretty. Putting your head down is perfectly acceptable and encouraged.
3. What will I gain from this read aloud of which you speak?
It may not seem like it, but having a book read to you (yes, even as a young
adult) helps to improve your literacy skills. Improving your literacy skills
leads to improving your communication and language skills, which leads to
success in every single aspect of your life. Also, you might find the book
interesting (gasp!).
