1. What are the three core factors that led to the chaos, according to the article?
The first core factor was the broken promise between their leader and their citizens because they failed
to sign peace and trade agreements with the EU. The second factor was the lingering cold war problems
because people are still suffering from political and economic problems from the Soviet era. The third
core problem is the brutal response to citizen protests.

2. Why does Russia feel threatened by Ukraine forming a closer partnership with Europe?
Because Russia looks at it as a partnership against Russia.
3. Why did many Ukrainians, especially in the Western part of the country, want Ukraine to sign
political and economic agreements with the European Union?
Because they have economic and political problems that the EU could help them with.
4. Why did street protests erupt in November 2013?
Because Yanukovych would not move forward and he gave $15 billion in loans and natural gas
discounts when they need the money.
5. What were some of the government missteps that helped further fuel the protests?
Yanukovych gave need money to other nations in discounts and loans for natural gas. Also,
beating by the police of young protesters on Nov. 30, 2013.
6. What additional questions do you have about whats going on in Ukraine?
If the Ukraine has all the economic and political problems that they have, why dont they gain
allies to sell their natural resources too instead of fighting with them?
