Elementary School in Middletown, CT. It is for the Biography section. For weeding purposes
we agreed that books with a copyright date of 1995 or below should be discarded as well as
books that were damaged.

Conclusion:
Several issues came to my attention while conducting the maintenance on the biography section.
The first is there are a lot of missing books. Im assuming this occurred because the library went
without a Library/Media Specialist for a number of years. Secondly, there were many outdated
books, some dating back to the 1960s. The collection would greatly benefit from a set of new
biographies in a number of categories. Some of the most used books were on Martin Luther
King and the Holocaust; therefore, adding some new materials to this collection would be
beneficial. Also, the students would benefit from a new collection of celebrity and sport
biographies. The few that the library has are checked out often. Lastly, there is an older
collection of books on past Presidents, dating back to 1989. Although these books are in
excellent condition they are in black and white and unappealing to the reader. I would suggest a
new set of that are colorful and draw the reader in. Refreshing the biography section with new
materials would also help the school align with the Common Core and its emphasis on NonFiction work.
