Genetics: Dominant and Recessive Traits

Topic: Dominant and Recessive Traits

Audience: 9th grade Biology
Webquest ID#: 171874
Direct URL: http://poster.4teachers.org/worksheet/view.php?id=171874
Summary: This webquest will help students to explain genetic variation from
bioglyphs using vocabulary words: dominant, recessive, phenotype, and genotype.
Students will participate in multiple activities that will help them practice using
vocabulary in writing and speaking while understanding more about the meaning of
the words. They will have a deeper understanding of how people look different from
each other based on genetic variation passed down from parents to offspring.
Activities: Students watch a BrainPop video to review past lessons and vocabulary
on heredity and inheritance. They will predict if a trait they have is dominant or
recessive. Then, they will construct possible parent bioglyphs. After, they will share
and explain what they found to their classmates. Last activity is a writing
assignment to apply what they learned during the lesson.
