FLUID MECHANICS -1 (BTCE-301) MST-II B.Tech.(Civil) 27.11.14 M.Max = 24 Time : 90 min Attempt all questions. Section-A (1) Define:-(a)similitudes (b)Dimensional homogeneity. (2) Show that ratio of Inertia force to the Viscous force gives the Reynold's number. (3) What are the assumptions and applications of Bernoulli's energy equation. (4) Differentiate between free vortex flow and forced vortex flow. Section-B (5) Find the maximum speed of an open circular cylinder, having 180mm diameter, 1200mm length and containing water upto a height if 960mm, at which it should be rotated about its vertical axis so that no water spills. (6) A pipe having 90 reduced-bend through which water flows. The pressure at inlet is 210 kN/m2 where the cross sectional area is 0.0025m2 and the velocity is 16m/s. The pressure at the exit is atmospheric. Determine the magnitude and direction of resultant force on the bend. Section-C (7) The force(F) exerted by a flowing fluid on a stationary body depends upon the length(L) of the body, velocity(V) of the fluid, density(p)of the fluid , viscosity(u) of the fluid and acceleration (g) due to gravity. Find an expression for the force using dimensional analysis.
