Group 2 - First Logic Engineering - Failure Analysis Proposal

Objective:
First Logic Engineering is proposing to analyze the failure that occurred on a high-mileage 2000
Honda Odyssey passenger door handle. With over 25 years of experience, our expertise range
from failures in manufacturing equipment, lab test machinery, and high cycle failure events.
Plan of action:
Our team plans to collect the background data from Honda of the failed door handle, specifically
the anticipated forces placed on the handle during normal operation and blueprints of the
assembly. This information will be used for an FEA analysis of the door handle. The results of
the FEA analysis will be used to locate the stress concentrations and a possible solution will be
proffered. A FEG-SEM will be utilized to find any possible internal crack propagations. An EM
Model 5869 tensile test will be used to determine the material properties of the failed part. The
estimated time of completion of analysis is shown in Table 1. Table 2 displays the estimate costs
for equipment use and labor.
