How many of you have ever been at a sporting
event where you have done the wave in the stands?
- Perfect! Well I personally love doing the wave,
but the wave cannot be done alone!
- To warm up our muscles we are going to work as
a team to recreate the wave with a twist.
- How many of you know how to do a squat?
- Good! Its like youre pretending to sit in an
imaginary chair.
- This is what we are going to do instead of
moving our arms, we are going to do a squat to
create a wave.
- Tell students they have to send the wave down
and the person at the end will have to return the
wave to the start.

Concept of the wave. Students will have to work as a

team, pay attention to others movements, and follow one
another to perform a wave. Instead of using hands to
create a wave, students will sit in a squat position as
quickly as possible. When that person has completed
the squat they have to stay there until the person next to
them starts moving into the squat position. Try to do this
as quickly as possible. Repeat concept on the way back
down the line. Do this activity again however replace the
squat with a toe touch.

Ask Have any of you ever seen a ship or a

boat?
Now normally on a ship do we see just one
person, or is there normally a crew/team that
works to make the ship sail across the water?
Thats right there is usually a team
This is why we are all going to work in teams to
help our ships sail across the ocean, well in our
case the gym floor in a game called
shipwreck!

teacher, explain the activity.
How many of you have played red light green
light before?
Awesome! We are going to play red light green
light, but in a way that will not only be more
challenging but will also require you to work as a
team instead of individually.
Shipwreck is about working together as a crew
(team of people on a ship) to get your ship safely
across the ocean.
In front of you is a hula-hoop, however in this
game your hula-hoop is your ship that will guide
you and save you from the ocean water.
When I say sail, you will need to pick up your ship
and make sure that everyone is holding onto the
ship with two hands. From there as a team you
will try to **safely** jog across the gym floor.
But listen closely because if you ever hear the
words shipwreck you will have to freeze and set
down your ship.
Now in the ocean when a shipwreck occurs a big
wave is made. So as soon as your ship has

crashed and is on the ground each person in the

group has to do three vertical jumps to avoid the
wave and then step on their ship to stay safe.
Your goal is to get everyone in your team into
your ship safely standing still and quietly before
the other groups.
The last group to do their three jumps and have
everyone aboard their ship has to go back to the
start and continue sailing over again from that
point.
Students will wait for teacher to say sail again
before they can get out pick up their ship
(carrying it the same way) and continue on across
the ocean.
The first team to reach the end is the winner
SAFTEY:
o There is running involved in this game,
however we are not going to run we are
going to job at a safe pace.
o You will all be jogging holding the same
object so you need to pay attention to
other people in your groups pace so you
are not pulling or pushing them with your
ship.
o Since we are jogging, everyone need to be
jogging facing the direction you are going
(no running backwards)
o Do not throw the hula-hoop on the ground
gently set it down
o Keep your head up and gently step onto
your ship as space since space is limited.
o Shoving is not allowed.
Check for Understanding
o How many hand does each member of the
crew need on the ship?
o How are we going to move across the
floor, at a nice ____ pace?
o How many jumps does each member have
to do before stepping onto the boat?
