TExES Competencies for EDUC 1301

The State Board of Educator Certification has approved Texas Educator Standards that
delineate what the beginner educator should know and be able to do. These standards, which
are based on the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) form the basis for the TExES
Program (Texas Examination of Educator Standards). Check out a study guide for the test. You
will take this exam during your senior year of college:

In order to become a certified teacher, you must be able to pass the PPR (Pedagogy and
Professional Responsibilities and your teaching area exam (2 exams minimum).
Of the 13 competencies that exist for the PPR Exam, in EDUC 1301, we have covered the
following 5 competencies:

Competency 007: The teacher understands and applies principles and strategies for
communicating effectively in varied teaching and learning contexts.
Competency 008: The teacher provides appropriate instruction that actively engages
students in the learning process.
Competency 011: The teacher understands the importance of family involvement in
childrens education and knows how to interact and communicate effectively with
parents.
Competency 012: The teacher enhances professional knowledge and skills by
effectively interacting with other members of the professional community and
participating in various types of professional activities.
Competency 013: The teacher understands and adheres to legal and ethical
requirements for educators and is knowledgeable of the structure of educa tion in Texas.

Competency 007: The teacher communicate effectively with the students in order to teach.
Competency 008: Keeps the students interested on the assignment of focus.
Competency 011: Involves parents in the teaching of students.
Competency 012: Interacts in a professional matter with other co workers or supervisors
Competency 013: Understand all legal and illegal matters that is stated in the state of Texas.
