I did my observation hours at Wolfe City ISD. I was in Mrs. Davis 7th and 8th grade math.
I observed her class and saw the different techniques she uses to teach her math class. She used
different strategies to get math through these students. She is a great teacher to follow. Math
seems to be her second nature. Not everybody has that talent.
One of the techniques that she used was using the promethean board. She uses all the
applications to work on the board. She helps using the visuals for the students. She also allows
the student to go the board and teach the other students the techniques that they have learned. I
think it helps the students understand better and allows them to participate in class so that they
dont get bored.
Another technique that she uses, are videos. Some videos teach you step by step to solve
a math problem. The students also felt that they were able to benefit from that. One thing that she
used for a fact was how to graph on your calculator. Students were able to learn step by step.
Students are not all the same but I noticed that they were easily able to get the hang of what they
were doing. There were a few that needed to be helped but most of the students understood. It
makes learning so much better when you can learn and feel that you can understand. You feel
that sense of accomplishment. I could tell that from what I saw in the students.

The last technique was the regular homework technique. She is a math teacher, which
understands that they also have a life at home. She would assign at least 40 question homework
assignments and allow them 2 days to complete. When it was completed she would go over the
one the student had the most trouble with. Again she got the students to participate and show her
how they thought to do it. She then would do it her way and show them the right way. 8th Grade
is allowed to use calculators but not 7th based on the STAAR requirements.
Even though, my specialty might not be math. I have learned that I enjoy it. I enjoy math
because it really works your brain. I feel that math is challenging but once you understand the
concept its really easy. I would have wished that we have now I would have had when I was in
school. Mrs. Davis make math feel like a breeze. I enjoyed observing her class. I am also glad
that I could see her techniques and be able to apply it when I become a teacher one day.
