6:30 pm 9:30 pm
Participants and their guest are invited back through time to the
Roaring Twenties. The event will be held in Harrisburg, PA at The
Milestone on the River. The Jazz Age, Roaring 20s, Golden Era... with a clash happening
between the conservative Victorianism of the previous decade and social liberation on the rise,
sparks were flying in the 1920s. The war was over, there was a break from the traditional and
people liked to party! No wonder this is such a popular theme for fancy dress! Think Gatsby,
prohibition, Capone, flappers, and the Charleston.
The Mansion
The Milestone is furnished in keeping with the glamour of the early 1920's. The well-crafted
interior design nods toward the architecture and styling of many turn of the century American
mansions. The Milestone on the River boasts a sprawling ground floor interior which is wellpositioned to host parties, celebrations, and meetings. The mansion also cradles a large lawn,
copper pavilion and private courtyard to further expand its hospitality.

You're invited to stroll through the early

20th Century Tudor Revival mansion and
explore the mansion's design which shares
Medieval English tradition with French
Eclecticism and admire for yourself its
beauty and rarity.
The L-shaped property, constructed of
stone from a private Chester County quarry, is deftly integrated into the urban setting. It is
highlighted by the intersections of steeply pitched slate roofs; half-timbering and stucco in the
projecting gabled entrance; irregular placement of ribbons of metal casement windows; and
elegant groupings of decorative, double brick chimneys.
The interior is well-appointed with five fireplaces, interior hardwood and slate floors,
poured concrete steps, arched passageways of carved limestone, white cypress paneling, and
commissioned ironwork from the studios of master craftsman, Samuel Yellin. While other
examples of similar architecture still remain along Front Street, few are as grand and graceful
as the Milestone on the River.
Attire: Come dressed to impress in your 1920 best gangster, flapper,
or silent screen star.
Code Word: Let the man at the door know Jim Carroll sent you
Signature Drinks: Sugar Moon and Tarantula Juice
Music: The 1920s saw the height of New Orleans and Chicago styles of jazz,

sandwiched between the Dixieland sound of the 1900s and the Swing era of the 1930s.
Our 1920s live band will be making the floor jumpin.
