Final Reflection

This semester has broadened my perception of what writing really included, so in this
culmination of all my semesters work I showcase my attempts at employing the concepts I
learned in this class. From the beginning when we were asked to write about where we came
from I began to realize that to move forward in my writing I must look to the past and refine my
methods of writing. Specifically I learned that where I come from is projected onto what I write
in the present. Also what I am taught by life or a teacher or a thought of the future changes the
process with which I sit down to write a paper with. Something I learned from the earlier classes
was that literature is defined by the individual, and to me literature is clay that can be molded to
fit the need of the person molding the clay. That is why there are multiple genres of literature to
express ones thoughts through different venues. The only thing we as authors must do is control
the voice with which we tell our stories to our audiences to keep them interested. Through the
Twidterm I exercised the multimedia genre but through the use of this one genre I realized that
there are an infinite number of genres. I would even consider art in almost any form as a genre
since most art is meant to convey a point to the viewer just as a story is meant to convey a
message to the reader. In the later classes the concept of communities that are held together by
abstract similarities was brought to the table. Discerning and identifying discourse communities
was an ability I realized I always had but had never defined. In reality this course really taught
me more about what it means to get an education and define what we already know and what we
can know.
